It’s exciting to see a bunch of new faces join our club, so please take a minute to introduce yourself if you see a new face. All new members have been invited to a new member orientation in the month of May. The Ladies Organization has their annual Easter egg hunt planned for Saturday, April 23rd at 1:00 p.m. This is always a great club event and they are seeking donations for Easter baskets for the kids so please contact one of them if you are interested in donating. As a reminder this event is open to members and guests of members.
Course cleanup and preparation is moving forward. We have our first work day planned for April 9th with a scramble to follow work. We have not finalized projects yet, but as always there is a lot to be done this Spring. Those wishing to contribute some time and muscle will meet at 8:00 am and work until 12:30 pm. The course will be closed until 12:30 so that we may get as much work done as possible. Thank you for your support and understanding. With the nice weather on the way please remember to use the sand and seed bottles and fill in any divots that you find. Also, please remember to repair your ball marks on the greens. The more we do as members to take care of the course, the less maintenance cost we have and it leads to a better golfing experience for everyone. Final Word from the President: It’s April already and as we’ve come out of winter; the grass is growing, golf season is starting, the Annual Board Meeting will be this month and elections of new board members and officers will take place. We have some exciting news with a change in the General Manager position; the board of directors has promoted Cody Goodan to fill this position! I have acted as General Manager the last few years and it was obvious that Cody is the right person to take on these responsibilities. Cody of course will remain the Head Golf Professional, but will now also have oversight of the rest of the facility. Heather has been with us just over 7 months now and has been through a lot these past months. She is doing a great job and has identified a number of items to improve how our club operates and fix issues that were being done incorrectly in the past. Heather will be reporting to Cody and I’m confident that the two of them working together, and with Chuck and Jack from the grounds side, the club will be managed very effectively. We have a great staff in place for this year, with Alan, Chuck, Jack, Austin, Devi and Bri, and I’m really looking forward to a great golf season with them. This will be my final entry to the Divot as Club President. I have chosen not to run for the Board this year and it is with mixed emotions that I step down. The past 9 years have been a tremendous learning experience for me that has been made up of a lot of changes and improvements for our club. I can’t say enough of how proud I have been to serve with all of the board members and how much effort that our board has and continues to put into making our club such a great place to be a member. Some of the highlights over the last 9 years that I was fortunate enough to be a part of were the complete renovation of the lower and upper clubhouse, new cart sheds, new mowers, the point of sale system, the tree management plan, new tee boxes, and finally the continuous improvement in every facet of the club. Carol Franks is also stepping down this year and I want to personally thank her for the last 6 years that she has served on the board. Carol has been a tremendous asset to the board and should be thanked for her always-honest opinion and integrity that she tackles every issue with. I’m not sure how much that the members understand the time commitment the Board puts in to improving the club. We wouldn’t have been able to accomplish all the improvements that I noted above without the time and volunteer effort that the board and committees make. I would ask that you thank your board and committee members for a job well done, you may not always agree with the decisions that are made, but you should understand that the only compensation that board and committee members receive is a thank you for their efforts and time to improving the club for everyone. Finally, a last Thank You to the board members that have spent so much of their time and continue to do so to make our club such a great one, I won’t list them, but they know who they are, I consider them close friends and they continue to work hard for all of us as club members. It has also been a real pleasure working with such a great staff; they work hard for us as members and continue to care for their club as if it were their own. I can’t say how much I enjoy being a member of LGCC and look forward to playing golf this summer with such an outstanding membership. Sincerely….Clint Williams
